An early-morning blaze on Sept. 17 gutted a block of Highway 28 in Walhalla, South Carolina. Outlets reported six businesses lost and either six or seven buildings or storefronts destroyed. No injuries were confirmed.

A fire broke out about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, along Highway 28 (Main Street) between Catherine and Tugaloo streets in downtown Walhalla. City Administrator David Poulson said it consumed seven storefronts; Mayor Tim Hall said seven buildings were destroyed and six business owners lost workplaces. The Greenville News said six buildings were severely damaged. Named losses included Alexander’s Coffee House, Middle of Main Antiques, Carolina Pizza Company, Los Arcos, and Mundo Hispano. Officials had not named a cause.
