Turkey summoned Ukraine’s ambassador after Lider Bordo Mavi and the tow ship Lider Kocatepe were struck near Tuapse. Ankara warned that Black Sea lives, cargo, navigation and the environment must be protected.

Turkey summoned Ukraine’s ambassador on Aug. 29 after the Turkish-operated Lider Bordo Mavi was struck off Tuapse on Aug. 26 and the Lider Kocatepe, sent to tow it, was also targeted. Ministry sources said officials warned that life, property, navigation and the environment in the Black Sea must be protected. Daily Sabah and Hurriyet Daily News, citing shipping sources, said three drones set the Cameroon-flagged produce ship on fire and injured five crew. Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya said the container ship was later towed to Samsun. Turkey has called for a halt to attacks on civilian shipping; Kyiv Independent reported Kyiv would accept a Black Sea moratorium and Moscow has not.
