The former Oklahoma trooper and Mullin adviser is pulled without a public reason, leaving ICE without a Senate-confirmed director.
On Sept. 17, 2026, the White House withdrew President Trump’s nomination of former Oklahoma state trooper Lance Schroyer to lead ICE, less than three months after the June pick. Officials gave no reason. Schroyer is a senior adviser to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and had no prior ICE job. Senate Homeland Security Chair Rand Paul had not held a hearing while seeking records on Minneapolis immigration shootings; Paul’s office says he did not oppose the nominee. ICE has not had a Senate-confirmed director since 2017.
