Joshua Hawthorne, 32, is charged with assault, kidnapping and strangulation after police say the woman escaped at a Walmart.
Joshua Hawthorne, 32, was arrested after police said he forced his ex-girlfriend into a car on Aug. 23, took her to a St. Matthews home, assaulted her, cut her hair and clothes, and held her captive for three days. She escaped when he left her in a vehicle at a Walmart. Charges include assault, kidnapping, strangulation, wanton endangerment, terroristic threatening and violation of an IPO.

Police said Hawthorne held the woman captive for three days.
At his home, Hawthorne punched and choked the woman before locking her in a closet.
The citation said the woman was held captive in multiple closets around the house.
Court records show Hawthorne was under an active protective order barring him from possessing a gun.
Police said Hawthorne already had at least four convictions for violating those orders.
The woman called 911 after leaving the car.
Judge Tanisha Hickson set Hawthorne's bond at $50,000.
