GE Appliances announces $1 billion Appliance Park overhaul, shifting dryer production from Mexico
Louisville, KentuckyPublished 7 Sep 2026
The Haier-owned company and IUE-CWA said a $1 billion Louisville plan will move dryer production from Mexico, convert Building 5, and help secure 4,700 production jobs.
GE Appliances and the IUE-CWA announced a $1 billion transformation of Appliance Park in Louisville, including more than $400 million to move high-output dryer production from Mexico into Building 5, about $112 million for Building 1, and a previously announced $490 million Building 2 laundry plant. Refrigerator production in Louisville is slated to end in early 2027, with dryers starting later that year after a 9- to 12-month retooling; the company said workers stay on payroll with no related layoffs. Officials said the campus will become the largest U.S. home-appliance manufacturing site and that the plan helps secure 4,700 production jobs.

GE Appliances investing $1B to shift production from Mexico to Kentucky
Published 3 Sep 2026 accessed 6 Sep 2026
Facts
GE Appliances completed a $180 million expansion of Roper Corp. in LaFayette, Georgia, in June 2025.
Julie Wood said success of laundry production in Building 1 gave GE Appliances confidence to keep transforming Appliance Park.
Wood said locating other laundry operations at Appliance Park will give the company scale and expertise in one location.
That Georgia expansion created more than 600 jobs.
Energy Department washer-dryer efficiency standards are set to take effect March 1, 2028.
Wood said the Appliance Park investment is a long-term laundry strategy, not a response to a specific administration's trade policies.
Wood said GE Appliances remains interested in and supportive of trade agreements with Mexico and Canada.
Wood said GE Appliances adjusted its supply chain for events such as the closing of the Strait of Hormuz.
Those adjustments include becoming more vertically integrated and buying more parts from U.S. suppliers.
Since 2018, annual U.S. supply-chain spending grew from $2 billion to more than $4.6 billion, Wood said.
The U.S. supplier network grew from 1,700 to more than 6,500, Wood said.
Opinion
Wood said the trade-policy environment should not inadvertently diminish the economic benefits of the U.S. investments.
