Akron man dies as fugitive task force serves a warrant

Johnathan Moore, 34, died Thursday morning after the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force tried to arrest him at a home on Brown Street in Akron. He fired one round into his own head as an officer fired at least one round into his chest.
On the morning of Oct. 1, 2026, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force went to a home in the 500 block of Brown Street in Akron to arrest Johnathan Moore, 34, on a felony vandalism warrant. Officers found him armed in a locked bedroom, ordered him to drop the gun, and an officer deployed a Taser. The U.S. Marshals say Moore fired one round into his own head as an officer fired at least one round into his chest. He was taken to Summa Health in Akron and pronounced dead. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating, and the case is set for review by the Ohio Attorney General's Office and a Summit County grand jury.
